Supporting PPN Representatives
|
Carlow PPN is changing the way we work with our PPN Representatives; we are setting en train a series of measures to better support Reps in their roles. The changes are gradual to see if we can improve the links between Reps, the PPN community groups and the PPN office.
The PPN will be placed as a standing Agenda item at Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) meetings. This will assist Reps in coordinating what they will discuss at the meetings, and will enable them to have a voice representing the community.
The PPN will act as the conduit between the Reps and community groups (Colleges), circulating, collating, and feeding back information to reps as needed.
When new Reps are elected, the PPN explain the mandatory reps reporting structure and how they communicate with the community and the other Reps.
A South East Regional PPN Representative training session is being organised for Saturday 9th September 2023 (tbc).
If you have any thoughts on how we can further improve how we work with our Reps, please do get in touch, we would love to hear all suggestions.

Carlow PPN are doing great work with PPN representatives - some of you may ask 'what does that mean'? PPN Representatives are ordinary people from your street, your town, your residents association, your local club - the list of where they come from is endless. What representatives do is, they tell us about issues in their communities. These issues are fed into Carlow Local Authority committees, where PPN reps sit alongside elected politicians. We help our Reps make changes people from their communities want to see. Generally these meetings are held quarterly - Carlow PPN provides training to help Reps do a good job. We encourage you, and help you get organised for the meetings to make your committment worthwhile. You'll see below the details of current vacancies on committees we have. If you'd love to get involved but you're not confident about coming forward, just give us a call 087 195 1444 to find out more All calls are confidential

An invitation to develop a
'Hare’s Corner'
|
Back in the day, when Irish people were a bit more superstitious, farmers would leave an ‘awkward’ corner of their fields (that was usually too hard to access with machinery anyway), to the Irish Hare – a shape-shifting creature that could bring good or bad luck depending on how you treated them. Today, Carlow Environmental Dept. are looking to rekindle that tradition, and find a little space that can be dedicated to wildlife. Specifically, they are looking to install small ponds around Co. Carlow. There’ll be no cost to the landowner, suitability of suggested sites for pond installation will be assessed, with a hydrologist coordinated to design a pond that best suits the site and the landowner. This is a great opportunity to do something really proactive for biodiversity and climate. So if you are a farmer, are dating/married to one, are the son/daughter of one, live next door to one, or just happen to know one in any capacity – they would be delighted to hear from you/them. Contact Shane at scasey@carlowcoco.ie for further information.

Sustainable Development Goals - Updates

Budget 2024 -
Disability Federation of Ireland
|
The Disability Federation of Ireland (DFI) is calling on the government to close the gap and to invest in people with disabilities in Budget 2024. Independent living and being included as part of the community requires greater connectivity and collaboration across all local agencies, and for all Local Authority plans and actions to be disability proofed, from development to implementation and evaluation.
